A Word About Mr. Allen...
Like most teachers I don't live at the school. I have a house and a family I go home to every night. I am married, have 4 children and live on a small farm where we keep cows, horses, goats, chicken and Koi. My oldest daughter graduated from Skyview High my three sons graduated from Columbia High. My daughter has graduated from BYU and my son Christian graduated from CWI. My two eldest children are married and I am now a Grandpa with a granddaughter and grandson.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the age of 18 I got my Class 1 license (CDL) and drove flat bed semis hauling sod and lumber. I also worked as a light duty mechanic and on the loading dock at Viking Freight...all at the same time. I was a busy young man and that was definitely a good thing.
I have a bachelors degree in Communications from Brigham Young University and have been teaching Broadcasting in the Nampa School District for 18 years. My industry work experience includes 5 years as a News Photographer, 3 years as a Production Manager/Ops Manager, 6 years as a Commercial Producer/Director. I have worked as a freelance camera operator for ESPN, ESPN U, ESPN Gameday, CBS Sports Network, Versus/NBC Sports, OLN, The Mountain and Altitude. I have also been part of the video production at the Snake River Stampede and the Caldwell Night Rodeo.
I am a Commissioner in the Nampa FIre Protection District serving District #2. Our Fire District is responsible for about 18,000 people living in and around Nampa, we work closely with the Nampa Fire Department to provide our patrons with the best protection possible. (AND my name is on three buildings...which would really confuse my high school teachers) I was a motorcycle safety instructor for Idaho STAR for 17 years and have written 2 books on motorcycling--"Motorcycles, Life and...." & "The Elemental Motorcyclist" as well as "Ten Years In" a reflection on my first ten years teaching. I have a personal youtube channel centered on motorcycle safety that has over 8,000 subscribers with over 2 million views.
Of all the things I do and have done I particularly enjoy working with students and helping them reach their potential. I believe that often, as a society, we tend to see the worst in kids--I believe we need to look for the best, expect it, nourish it and it will grow. There is nothing as satisfying as seeing a student do something they didn't think they could do.
